Allowing the Amazon to breathe

110 Countries that represent 85% of the Worlds forests have promised to stop and reverse deforestation in the next nine years.
The first major deal at the COP26 Climate conference in Glasgow, saw countries pledge $19.2 billion dollars (£14bn) of public and private funds to slow down and reverse deforestation by 2030.
Those signing the deal include Brazil, which has been under intense scrutiny to protect the Amazon rainforest from further devastation. Indigenous tribes have been calling on the Government to act before its too late to protect habitats and species
Deforestation exacerbates climate change by destroying forests that absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.
Other countries who have also committed to the pledge include the UK, US, Canada, Russia, China and Indonesia.
The funding pledge will be used to restore land damaged by deforestation, help to combat wildfires and support local communities.
And big businesses have also pledged support, over 30 of the biggest financial institutions including Axa, Aviva and Schroders and Axa say they will stop investing in organisations and activities linked to deforestation.
